University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) Elections

 

In a highly contested university student election, two teams have been cleared to run for elections - Team Magic and Team Munyao. Both teams have been allowed to compete in the election, and the race is expected to be a tight one. Both teams, Team Magic and Team Munyao, have representatives from the Department of Civil & Construction Engineering. 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS COMMENCE SECOND SEMESTER LABS

Second-year students taking Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering have started their second semester labs in fluid mechanics at the Department of Civil & Construction Engineering. The students will be doing experiments on:

  1. Loss of water head due to friction in pipes
  2. Flow measurements in pipes using a Venturi-meter



 

The Department observed the World Engineering Day 2023

The Department of Civil & Construction Engineering observed the World Engineering Day 2023. The event was held at the Manu Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts at the University of Nairobi Tower on 4th March.

World Engineering Day 

Civil Engineering Staff make a Visit to Zenith Steel Fabricators in Isinya

A tour was organised by the University of Nairobi for staff from the Department of Civil & Construction Engineering to visit Zenith Steel Fabricators at their factory in Isinya, Kajiado County. Members who attended were Eng. Maimba, Eng. Matheri, Eng. Mburu, Eng. Nancy and Eng. Muthomi. The tour was led by Mohid Moez, an alumni of the Department. Zenith Steel is eager to take up students for their fourth-year attachments and internships. Zenith Steel handles about 40 000 metric tonnes of steel annually.

Civil Engineering Student Phelix Odero makes a Presentation on Timber

Phelix Odero, a fourth-year student from the Department of Civil & Construction Engineering, makes a presentation on timber design on a webinar organised by the Architectural Association of Kenya - Engineer's Chapter. Phelix Odero works part-time as a Technical Sales Representative (East Africa Region) at Rothoblaas Company. Other speakers in the webinar are: Andrew Lawrence who is a Director and a Fellow at Arup and the UK representative on the European Timber Design Code Committee; Arch. George Wekesa, who is the Timber Lead at Build X. Arch.

Master's and PhD Thesis Template Developed

The department has launched a thesis template for Postgraduate students. The template aims to improve the standardisation of the theses submitted to the University of Nairobi. The template is available from the webpage on the Department's website dedicated for postgraduate students research process. CONCRETE

Concrete mixer at the concrete lab is being repaired by members of staff from the Department of Mechanical Engineering with an aim of helping students to continue with their research and also consultancy services. The exercise is being supervised by the Chief Technologist Mr. Kenneth Kaunda
