Girls from Bura Girls Secondary school visited the Department during their educational tour to the University. The objective of the visit was to understand in depth what the department offers, for the students to make informed decision as the proceed with their studies. The students were hosted by Chief Technologist Mr. Kenneth Kaunda assisted by Mr. Francis Muturi

Chairman Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Dr. Simpson Osano gave His welcoming speech to the first year students 20222/23 during the  address held on Friday 23rd 2022 at CELT. He welcomed them at the Department and briefed them on  what they will encounter in their five year program.

The Chairman Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Dr. Simpson Nyambane took the First years 2022/23 through the Civil Labs as part of orientation program. The Chairman took that opportunity to introduce to the students the the technical staffs present. Also he gave them on introduction to civil engineering and possible career opportunities.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023 REPORT

First year students reported today the Nineteenth of September 2022 for the Academic year 2022/2023. The admission was led by Mr. Stephen Ochieng, Ms Joyce Kiboi and Mr. Ngutu on behalf of the Department. The students will undergo orientation within this week to welcome them at the University as they start a Five Year Program where they will study Bsc.

KEBS calibrates equipment at the Soils Lab and Concrete & Large Structures Laboratory

The Department of Civil & Construction Engineering procured calibration services from the Kenya Bureau of Standards. The KEBS staff did the calibration on 30th August 2022. The Uniaxial Testing Machine in the Concrete & Large Structures lab was calibrated.

The Department of Civil & Construction Engineering pursues a partnership with the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA) Capacity Building Programme

The Department of Civil & Construction Engineering is pursuing a partnership with the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA) Capacity Building Programme. the department is trying to have a Centre of Excellence set up at the department to train the operators. The Department is hopeful that the bus rapid transit (BRT) rollout is on the way. Dr. Osano represented the department.

Engineering Staff nominated to the Board of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA)

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Kiama, has nominated engineering staff to the Board of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). The following staff from the Faculty of Engineering have been nominated: 

  1. Prof. Eng. Ayub Gitau
  2. Dr. Eng. Simpson Osano 
  3. Eng. Hesbon Hayowa 

The nominations were in response to a request from the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works (MOTIHUD&PW).
