Abstract

Intersection in urban roads has great influence in the effectiveness of traffic flow system. This paper is aimed at assessing the performance of road intersection in Kisumu Town, Kisumu county using a roundabout that is the case of the intersection and assuming a cross junction. This study examined the performance of the intersection by looking into the delay time, level of service, formation of queues and the flow ratio of this intersection after the dualing of the intersection. Data was collected at the intersection, taking count of both the approaching vehicle and exiting vehicle count, short interviews and secondary data that was later compiled on Microsoft Excel sheet and analyzed using LISA + software to arrive to the conclusion made. The qualitative data was also analyzed. The Level of Service, the intersection delay time and volume capacity were used to make comparisons of intersection performance of a roundabout and a cross junction.
