Abstract

Road accidents have significantly increased in the country over the past years. These have lead to the loss of many lives. A big percentage of these crashes have been reported to involve vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists (NTSA, 2018)
Nairobi City County is listed as having the highest number of road crash fatalities involving pedestrians. This has been attributed to the rise of multilane highways around the city, lack of adequate pedestrian crossing facilities, careless driving and negligence by road users. Provision of footbridges across the highways at appropriate locations is one of the ways through which these increasing road crashes can be reduced.
This project therefore covers the Structural Analysis, Design and Detailing of a proposed Footbridge across Lang’ata road at the Nyayo roundabout. This is an effort towards reducing the ever increasing road crashes on Kenyan roads.
