The children’s home visit that took place at Kasarani on the 24th of July 2022 was a great success. The children were aged three to seventeen years old. Students from the University of Nairobi led by Darren Hart made the day a success through the activities they carried out. They supported the children by bringing them food, clothes, shoes, books and some detergents. The event kicked off at 9:00am where some members fellowshipped with the children in their Sunday Service. Thereupon, the Darren Hart Foundation members together with some members from the University of Nairobi squared away their place of stay, washed their clothes and afterwards cooked for the children. After the meal, there was a mentorship program for the children where we divided them into age-groups and different mentors from the Darren Hart Foundation coached them. After the first mentorship session, there were games and team building activities that everyone participated in. The second mentorship program for all the children led by Darren Hart was a conversation on ,”My Body is My Body.” They were made aware on the abuses they can receive such as being beaten too hard, kicked, burnt, punched as well as being touched inappropriately. They were sensitized on having a right of their body and in any case they are abused, they should report to a safe adult. After the mentorship, since it was Darren’s 25th birthday, we joined him to celebrate where a cake was cut and shared amongst everyone. The cake cutting was the epitome of the event and all the children were so elated by this. After the cake cutting Darren went back in with the candidates for a talk to encourage them and mentor them for their national exams. The response received from the children’s home visit was really motivational, the children were really open to us and could not hide their joy, they were open to express their feelings, ideas and were really bold in how they interacted with our team.
