PARKING STUDY ON NAIROBI COUNTY`S CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT

Abstract

This report is a general representation of the current parking situation and to investigate the parking characteristics in Nairobi County`s Central Business District. It describes and outlines parking demand management, the importance of providing sufficient parking in an urban setting and identifies some of the challenges faced by vehicle users due to congestion in the CBD.

It further elaborates that these problems are mainly caused by the imbalance between parking demand and supply, poor management policies, poor price management by both on and off street parking authorities and motorists as well

Field data analysis on both on and off street parking facilities was carried out and also questionnaire responses from a few interviewed motorists were used to come up with probable recommendations that might help mitigate some of the parking problems. However, this study is not conclusive and the suggestions that have been provided are just a catapult for further future research.
